In 1936 the Sikeston Airport became a WW II training center for the Army Air Corps. Adjacent to the airport an officer's club was built. After the war the building would become the clubhouse for Sikeston Country Club. A 9-hole golf course was built with round oiled sand greens. In mid 1950's the greens were converted to Bermuda grass. Around 1966 adjacent land was leased from the FAA and a second 9 holes was built and put into play. The current bent grass greens, built to USGA specifications, were constructed in 1990. A few years later the course would get new bunkers, tees, and cart paths. The fairways are a mixture of Bermuda and Zoysia grass. Roughs are mostly fescue and stay green year around.
The course has 5 par three holes and plays to par 71. Although the course is fairly flat it has Elm, Oak, and Pine trees throughout as well as 41 sand bunkers and four ponds. There are four sets of tees with the following yardages and ratings: Red: 4,836 yards (67.7/117); Gold: 5,302 yards (67.4/117); White: 6,006 yards (68.2/113); Blue: 6,412 yards (70.9/117). Five different hole locations are changed daily and designated on the scorecard.
